How to Connect Your VitalStream Monitor with Xchart

If you have a VitalStream monitor this article will show you how to connect it to Xchart for the automatic vitals feature.

Written by Miranda Moquist

To configure VitalStream to send vitals to Xchart please perform the following steps:

  1. Open the VitalStream app on your tablet and select the "settings" tile, followed by the "data forwarding" tab.

  2. Within the Data Forwarding tab ensure "enable forwarding" is turned ON.

  3. Under the Web Portal/Rest Based EHR section, tab "portal" and select "Xchart"

  4. Enter the following URL into the "Portal URL" field: https://api.xchart.com/v1/vitals

  5. Leave the "Xchart server Auth Token" field blank. This will automatically populate after the first session when a patient is started.

  6. Once the tablet is turned on and connected with your VitalStream monitor for vitals, go to the bottom left of the screen and select the the patient icon button.

  7. Then select the camera icon

  8. At this point you will go to the device you are logged into Xchart.com with

  9. Select a patient you can test the monitor connection with and go into the anesthesia record.

**NOTE: you cannot use the “Test Monitor Connection” for this—you will need to create an actual test case instead. This is because the VitalStream monitor sends data directly to our server, and the demo cases used during connection tests aren’t saved to the server. If you try and test the monitor connection with this button it will NOT work.

  10. Select "connect vitals monitor" from the monitor set up tab or from the upper right corner of the chart.

  11. Select "VitalStream"

  12. Then with the tablet you have the camera mode turned on with, capture the QR code from within the Xchart anesthesia record.

  13. Hit "apply" on the tablet

  14. Then back on the Xchart platform select "use this connection"

This video will also walk you through this process if you prefer this instead.
