Connecting Xchart With Edan CX12 Vitals Monitor

This article will walk you through the steps to getting your CX12 patient monitor connected with Xchart for automatic vitals input.

Step ONE - Set CX12 network to "wired":

  1. Menu

  2. System

  3. User Maintain

  4. Password - whoever bought the monitor picked this password when they went through the setup process after receiving the monitor. If unknown try #1234abcd

  5. Network Setup

  6. Connections - Change Connection type to: WIRED

  7. Select Config and set to the below:

    1. MODE: Manual

    2. Local IP Address: 192.168.7.20

    3. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

    4. Gateway: 192.168.7.10

    5. DNS: leave blank

  8. Push "confirm" button at the bottom to save these changes
    ​

  9. While still in the Network Setup Screen Navigate to "Network Security" and set to the below:
    a. Firewall: Off

    b. Packets Limit Switch: Off

  10. Push "confirm" at the bottom to save changes
    ​

  11. Again, while still in the Network Setup screen select "HL7 Setup" and set it to the below:

    a. Transfer Switch: On

    b. Connector Type: TCP Client

    c. Encryption Switch: Off

    d. Send Alarms: Off

    e. Parameter Period: 30s (or shorter if available)

    f. Server Address: 192.168.7.30

    g. Port: 9100

  12. Push "confirm" at the bottom to save changes

  13. Restart the monitor NOTE: Press the power button until it shuts off completely. Then restart.

Testing it with Xchart:

  1. Login to your dashboard at Xchart.com OR in the web browser go to xchart.com/test (this will take you straight to step 4)

  2. Select the settings wheel in the upper right corner. (Or you can go to xchart.com/test and this URL will take you to a fake case to test the monitor connection as well.)

  3. Select "test monitor connection"

  4. You'll get a pop-up reminding you this is a fake case and no data will be saved. You can select the "I understand, let me at it!" button

  5. Once in the fake chart you can test the connection from either of the 2 "connect vitals monitor" buttons. One will ALWAYS be displayed at the top of the screen for you to easily access, but it will also be under the monitor set up page.

  6. If this is your first time connecting the Xlink with this monitor select "Create Shortcut"

  7. Start typing in the Edan CX12 monitor

  8. Select the appropriate connection you will be utilizing with Xchart

  9. Select "Set Up Xlink" - NOTE: if Xchart has previously connected to this monitor and your Xlink is already configured you can select "It's already working" and skip this step.

  10. Follow the instructions on this screen. Once done you can select "Set Up Xlink"

  11. Select the correct connection. A good hint to know if your cable is being displayed in this box is by unplugging it from the computer you are working on. If an option in the box disappears and then reappears once plugged back in, that is the option you want to select.

    NOTE: If you DO NOT have anything appear in the connection selector box you may need to download a driver onto your computer. This process can be done by following these steps, it's usually the prolific driver: https://help.xchart.com/en/articles/9189747-install-prolific-driver-windows

  12. Select "continue with this monitor"

  13. Once back to the patients chart it should now have the blue bar displayed across the screen. This bar is a good indicator letting you know you are connected to a vitals monitor and vitals are coming in automatically. If you do not have a blue bar across the top of the chart you are NOT connected to a monitor and live vitals are NOT coming in automatically.
