Sharing the Final Anesthesia PDF Record

When an anesthesia record is finalized Xchart gives the user an option to share the PDF. When sharing a PDF from Xchart the information in this article will show you how we handle the link to protect your patient information.

Sharing a PDF link

You can share a link to your PDF using either button in the “Share a PDF link” window:

  • Copy to clipboard: Copies the link so you can paste it into a message and send it to the intended recipient.

  • Email it to someone: Starts the process of sharing the link by email.

Both options share a link to the PDF, rather than attaching the PDF file.

How is the link protected?

  • Encrypted connection: When someone opens the link, HTTPS encrypts the PDF as it travels between Xchart and their browser.

  • Unique access token: The link includes a long, randomly generated access token that makes a valid link effectively impossible to guess.

  • Automatic expiration: The link expires 30 days after it is created.

Who can open the link?

Anyone with the link can download the PDF before the link expires, without signing in. The link is not tied to a specific person or user account. If someone forwards it, the person receiving it can also access the PDF.

How should I share it?

Treat the link as sensitive information because it provides access to the document. Share it only with the intended recipient through an approved communication channel, and make sure only the appropriate people can view the message containing it.
